Is Your Dental Clinic's Low Ad Performance Actually a Landing Page Issue? Discover Key Fixes to Boost Conversions

Why Most “Ad Problems” In Dental Marketing Are Really Landing Page Problems

When a dental clinic tells us “our ads aren’t working,” we almost always start by looking at the landing page, not the ads.

Over the past few years working with dental practices, we’ve seen the same pattern again and again:

good traffic, decent ad copy, reasonable budget… and a landing page that quietly kills conversions.

In this post, we want to walk through how we actually diagnose and fix underperforming dental landing pages, using the same tools and process we rely on every week. No fancy theory, just what we see in real campaigns.

Where patients really get stuck: watching real behaviour

We don’t guess where patients are getting confused. We watch it.

Tools like Hotjar or Microsoft Clarity let us see:

  • session recordings (how real people move through the page)
  • scroll maps (how far they actually scroll)
  • click maps (what they try to tap on, especially on mobile)

For dental clinics, this usually reveals a few common issues:

  • Patients never see the main offer because it’s buried below the fold
  • The main call-to-action is too subtle or looks like “just another button”
  • Mobile visitors have to pinch, zoom, or scroll sideways to complete a form
  • People get stuck reading long blocks of text and never reach the booking section

One example: we worked with a clinic running implant ads. On the landing page, the “Book Implant Consultation” button was only visible after two full scrolls on mobile. Recordings showed people stopping right before the button and dropping off. Once we moved the CTA higher and repeated it, bookings went up without changing the ads at all.

Tracking what actually turns into patients, not just clicks

A lot of dental campaigns track clicks and impressions, but not what really matters: booked appointments.

That’s where Google Analytics 4 (GA4) comes in. We use it to answer questions like:

  • Which traffic sources actually lead to new patient enquiries?
  • Which landing page variation brings more booked calls?
  • Are people who come from Google Ads behaving differently than those from Facebook or Instagram?

For example, we might see that:

  • Facebook traffic brings cheaper clicks but fewer bookings
  • Google search traffic is more expensive but converts at 3x the rate
  • One specific Invisalign page quietly outperforms all others

Without this level of tracking, it’s easy to pour more money into the wrong channel or keep “optimising” an ad that was never the real problem.

Keeping tracking flexible with Google Tag Manager

If every small tracking change requires a developer, testing becomes painfully slow.

We use Google Tag Manager (GTM) so we can:

  • track form submissions without editing the site code each time
  • measure button clicks (like “Call now” or “Book online”)
  • set up events for things like WhatsApp clicks or opening a chat widget

This matters for dental clinics because you often have multiple ways for patients to contact you: phone, form, online booking, WhatsApp, sometimes even Facebook Messenger. GTM lets us see which of these options patients actually use, and which ones are just taking up space.

Improving conversion rates with simple A/B tests

We don’t try to guess the “perfect” landing page. We test it into existence.

Using A/B testing tools (like VWO or Google Optimize alternatives), we’ll usually start with:

  • headline variations
  • different hero images (real team vs stock photos)
  • offer changes (“Free consultation” vs “$99 new patient special”)
  • CTA wording (“Book now” vs “Request an appointment”)

For a whitening campaign, a small headline change from “Professional Teeth Whitening” to “Whiter Teeth In One Visit” made a noticeable difference in enquiries. Same clinic, same service, same ads - just a clearer promise on the page.

Building landing pages that don’t get in the patient’s way

The tool (Webflow, Unbounce, or WordPress) matters less than how the page is structured. For dental clinics, we’ve found a few principles that consistently work:

  • One clear offer per page

Implants on one page, Invisalign on another, whitening on another. When we mix everything together, patients get confused and leave.

  • One main CTA, repeated

“Book implant consultation” or “Schedule Invisalign assessment” - not five different options competing for attention.

  • Mobile-first design

Big, tap-friendly buttons. Short forms. No tiny text. Most of your patients are on their phones, often on the go.

  • Simple, honest copy

Patients don’t need jargon. They want to know: what is it, will it hurt, how much does it cost, and can I trust you.

Why this matters more than “fixing the ads”

Most of the “ad problems” we see in dental marketing are actually:

  • no clear CTA
  • cluttered pages
  • weak or confusing copy
  • no proper tracking
  • no testing process

Once those are fixed, ads that looked “bad” suddenly start performing just fine.

If you’re running Google Ads or social campaigns and conversions are low, it might be time to look hard at the landing page, not just the ads.
